Computers4Kids
(C4K) is different from other computer distribution programs. Each
youth who receives a computer will also be matched with a mentor.
The mentor meets with the student once a week to provide educational
support and serve as a role model and advocate.
Mentors are adults
who, along with parents, provide young people with support, counsel,
friendship, positive reinforcement and constructive example. Mentors
are good listeners, people to care, people who want to help young
people bring out strengths they already have.
If you are interested
in becoming a C4K mentor, please fill out the mentor
application. Since mentors will be working
with area students, all mentors undergo
a
standard
background
check
before becoming
C4K mentors. Mentors attend an orientation program that gives
them the information and tools they need to become a C4K mentor.
Then, based on a mutual fit with mentor and student skills and
interests, you'll be matched up with a C4K student.
We
have had problems with our online mentor and volunteer applications.
