Students in the program may earn a free home computer system and a year of free internet service, all provided by C4K. Making technology available at home…Computers4Kids is proud of what we can teach our students, but we feel access to technology only at our computer lab is not enough. In order to provide our students with the quality and ease of technology access they need in order to stay competitive at school, we work hard to get computers into all of their homes. Not only do our students benefit from having home computers, but many families have reported improvements in all their household members' computer skills, improving their chances for future success as well. All computer systems distributed to our students are donated to us by community members and businesses. Our very capable refurbishing volunteers clean up all donated equipment, make sure they are working properly and are up to our standards, and prepare them for student use. Students who graduate from our program get to keep their computers and get to enjoy free maintenance and repairs provided by our volunteers. Once students have received their computer, they may attend workshops to earn enough extra credits to earn a year of home internet access. Interested in refurbishing computers? Get Involved! Parent Internet TrainingIn order to ensure the safety of all our students, prior to awarding them with home internet access we require all parents attend an internet safety training class. Performed by Albemarle County police officers, the training class teaches parents how to monitor their child's internet usage in order to keep them safe in cyber-space.
