Students may also earn a computer and free internet access for their home. All students receive technology training, from basic computer to complex high-tech skills from a highly trained staff and dedicated adult mentors. Upcoming Training DatesIn order to begin the Computers4Kids program, all students must attend a 3-day basic training class. Training sessions are generally held once a month.
Get EnrolledTo get started at Computers4Kids, students must submit an application prior to attending training class. Print an application and return to our office either by hand, mail, or fax. Basic Computer Training ClassThis class must be attended by all incoming students and attendance every day is mandatory. Students will learn basic computer skills to set a foundation for the higher tech skills they will soon be learning. Students will also learn internet safety and the expectations of the program. This 3-day class is usually offered the first week of every month. Following the final day of class, students may use the computer lab on an after-school independent learning basis and they will also be matched with an adult mentor, who they will meet with on a weekly basis. Tech YesTech Yes is a nationally recognized student technology literacy certification. The program helps schools and organizations meet the ISTE NETS technology standards and satisfy the No Child Left Behind technology literacy requirement. Computers4Kids has incorporated Tech Yes into our program for 7th through 9th graders as a way to document students' technology skills. To become Tech Yes certified, students must complete two projects and have them approved by a Tech Yes mentor as well as the Tech Yes advisor. Tech Yes is introduced during two nights of the basic student training. We read through and discuss the first three chapters of the Tech Yes student guide and explain how to plan, execute, and document projects. During training, students also demonstrate that they understand how to use technology safely.
